The eagerly anticipated thirteenth generation of Ford’s best-selling vehicle brought a slew of groundbreaking changes for the 2015 model year. However, the famous American automaker wasted no time resting on laurels and went on to give the F-150 pickup several updates for 2016, including a new range-topping Limited trim level. As for the 2017 Ford F-150 Platinum, it will be positioned right below the newly introduced Limited trim, offering a slew of luxurious features.
Official announcements have yet to come but we expect the 2017 Ford F-150 Platinum to hit the US showrooms in the second half of 2016.
2017 Ford F-150 Platinum Features
Compared to the lower trim levels, the 2017 Ford F-150 Platinum brings a more contemporary luxury appearance. The list of standard features that come with this trim includes 8-way power-adjustable driver and passenger seats, leather upholstery, multi-level heated seats, hands-free entry, and a leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. As for the convenience technologies, expect it to offer cruise control, adjustable pedals, rear parking sensors with a rear view camera, dual zone climate controls, etc. Among the high-end features unique to the Platinum models are special 20-inch alloy wheels, aluminum interior trim, as well as power-deployable running boards.
2017 Ford F-150 Platinum Engine Range
In the engine department, the 2017 Ford F-150 Platinum will carry over virtually unchanged. The range still starts with the 3.5-liter V6 cranking out 282 horsepower and 283 pound-feet of torque. Then there is the familiar 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 that gives 325 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque. The V8 option comes in the form of a 5.0-liter engine producing 385 ponies and 387 lb-ft of torque. Of course, the range-topping powertrain will come as the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with its 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of twist. The only available gearbox will once again be the six-speed automatic with a tow-haul mode. In terms of towing capacity, the F-150 lineup ranges between 7,600 pounds and 12,200 pounds achieved by a properly equipped model with the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 under its hood.
